Paying for Therapy
If finding a therapist who is a good fit isn’t hard enough, finding affordable care under capitalism is another challenge. Check out the options below for finding affirming low-cost/pro bono care (in no particular order).
1) Open Path Collective for sliding scale (https://openpathcollective.org/)
2) Employee Assistance Program - Your workplace may have an EAP in the benefits package.
3) Apply for a therapy fund
Loveland Foundation (https://thelovelandfoundation.org/therapy-fund/) for Black women and nonbinary individuals
BIPOC Healing and Therapy Fund (https://mentalhealthliberation.org/bipoc-therapy-fund/) for Black, Indigenous and People of Color/Global Majority (BIPOC)
Asian Mental Health Collective Lotus Therapy Fund (https://www.asianmhc.org/free-therapy-funds/)
4) Consider the value of free peer support
Peer Support Space (https://peersupportspace.org/)
Fireweed Collective (https://fireweedcollective.org/support-groups/)
Wildflower Alliance (https://wildfloweralliance.org/online-support-groups/)
Postpartum Support International (https://postpartum.net/get-help/psi-online-support-meetings/)
5) Even if a therapist doesn’t list pro bono services on their website it never hurts to call and ask.
6) Find a local non-profit or community center
CenterLink LGBT Center Directory (https://web.lgbtqcenters.org/atlas/directory/results)
7) Join a therapy group - Groups have the benefits of less cost per person and you get to be in a space with a mental health provider plus multiple peers who support you.
